When people think body scanners, it’s typically a cumbersome airport security measure, rather than a shopper’s delight. With Dress Code A.I., however, their scanner-based recommendation system was the main attraction. Now, they’ve secured $400K to make automated shopping recommendations even easier! After all, who could say no to just a couple selfies?

As malls take a back seat to our own living rooms for shopping excursions, how can we avoid the disappointing process of browsing dozens of pages, or even ordering a cherished piece of apparel, only to find that it would need to be boxed up and returned to the store since it was one size too small.

While existing recommendation systems employ algorithms using one shopper’s choices to compare her to so-called similar shoppers, Dress Code A.I. knows that it’s not that simple; just as we learned as children, no two people are alike. Dress Code A.I. understood this and thus took a much deeper, extensive, psychological approach to recommendations.

For instance, two people might appear similar to Amazon’s recommendation engine, because they wore the same smart casual outfit to the office, but that only represents one sphere of their social lives. One shopper might want something sexy for a night out after work, and the other shopper might just want a warm sweater to watch Netflix with her husband at home. Marital status, hobbies, personality, and other particulars all play a part in composing a shopper profile. This is why, in addition to the two selfies, that Dress Code A.I. endeavors to learn more about a shopper’s personality traits and behaviors — which are of much more importance than just one’s purchase history.

Behavioral micro-analysis and deep machine learning are Dress Code A.I.’s secret sauce after all; it allows people to find and buy something they want within minutes instead of scrolling through 150 pages as they do now. Such intelligent merchandising and in-depth knowledge of their customers will allow retailers to increase their conversion rates and have a better ROI on their marketing dollars.

Customers, on the other hand, love it because the process feels extremely personalized, and thus more human. Dress Code A.I. offers something truly interactive that customers love to play and experiment with.
